Abstract
The purpose of this project is to design a feeding chair that can “grow” with a child, providing many more years of use during the child’s rapid development. We specifically aimed to design the chair to accommodate a child from age two to age six who is too large for his current feeding chair and projected to be taller than the rest of his age group.

Problem Statement/overview of the need
Our client has an almost three year old boy who is very tall for his age and expected to grow even more over the coming years. They use a feeding chair to keep him in place and help direct his attention as he learns and plays. Our client needs a feeding chair that can be adjusted to fit the boy as he grows.
Design Specifications
There are several specifications that our client needs for their child. These specifications are as follows:
- Chair needs to adapt to size over the next three years
- Head support
- Cup holder
- Child should be able to get in and out of the chair on his own.
- The tray needs to be removable
- Ability to hang toys from the chair
Additionally, there are some specifications that we would like to add to the design. These are as follows:
- Easy to clean
- Waterproof (if possible, polyurethane or lacquer coating)
- Rounded and soft edges for child safety and comfort
Background research
The basis of our client’s needs is a feeding chair that can adapt to size as the child grows. Currently, there are a few of these chairs already on the market. However, they do not meet all of our clients needs. Below are just a few examples:
These are great designs and meet a couple of our needs. However, some of the main needs from the client would not be met. These are lacking a head support, cup holder, holders for toys, and easy access for the child.
