Low resistance exercise S15
Abstract
Suffers from Brittle Bone Disease and has little strength in his legs and no strength in his arms, so we are designing a low resistant customized wheel chair that will assist him in walking to help build strength. It will be fully customizable to adjust to his weight and height as he grows.

Problem Statement/overview of the need
A customized wheel chair that provides assistance and support to the child that will allow for strength building and balance training
Design Specifications
1. List of design specifications. Some of these must be quantitative and measurable. You should be able to use these to compare design options.
Background research
Conceptual Design
Summarize your conceptual design process. Develop at least three concepts.
Design Concept 1
Customized wheel chair that allows for maneuverability, comfort, and support while standing by having a full back rest with head support and shoulder straps. We want to have multiple mounting points on the seat so we can move it up as he grows which allows the frame to remain rigid.
Design Concept 2
Jolly Jumper that is connected to a weight system or hydraulic system that supports some of the weight of that person, which allows the person to jump with less resistance. Our biggest concern with this concept is creating a system that has very low impact when he lands so he does not get hurt. Also this system seems like it would be very large in a room. However if we could get the assistance level right it would be a fun way for him to gain leg strength
Design Concept 3
A round table that he will sit in the middle of and will be able to swivel. this table would enable him the freedom to spin around to different toys on different parts of the table, it will also help strengthen his legs since he will have to push to spin.

Detailed Design
This section will describe a detailed design process
Description of selected design
Our Project is a four wheeled cart that the child will be able to stand in with his weight supported. Which will enable him to try and walk without weight on his legs to help him build leg strength and giving him some freedom to move around on his own.
Detailed description of selected design
Our design has four legs evenly spaced around a safety rail which holds him from falling out. We decided on four legs over three to reduce the risk of him being able to tip over if he was to hit something with the wheels. Also each of the legs will be set on a 45 degree angle to the ground for increased stability. Instead of having a five point harness like in the original design concept we decided to have a ring that full encloses him around 2 inches under his armpit with a seat suspended from the tube. We chose this route instead so he would not have any of the stresses from the straps pressing on him. As well as the fully enclosed ring there will also be a padded backrest and headrest. On each of the four legs we will have 3 inch diameter caster wheels from caster-boards to enable him to roll with as little input as possible. We decided the frame should be one solid welded piece for increased strength, so we put the height adjustment into the seat in the form of adjustable straps.
