Proprioceptive input device II
Abstract
- Autism is a developmental disorder that effects communication/social ability.
- A replacement sensory tunnel is needed for a 2-year-old boy with autism.
- We will be combining the idea of the sensory tunnel as a safe place with interactive sensory panels to hopefully facilitate communication.
Note
There were two teams doing preliminary designs but they were combined after the final design was chosen. For the final design see http://ttu-eime.csc.tntech.edu/index.php/Proprioceptive_input_device.

Problem Statement/overview of the need
- Replacement sensory tunnel for 2-year-old child with autism
- Comforting/Restrictive/Stretchy/Durable
- Interactive Sensory Panels
- Simple interactive devices (doors/faces/textures) with feedback to promote communication
- Easily Stored
Design Specifications
- Easily stored (foldable/collapsible)
- Durable
- Includes interchangeable interactive sensory panels
- Electronic auditory feedback
Background research
- By incorporating the sensory boards in the tunnel system, our goal is to provide the child with a small confined, comforting, safe space in which he can interact and learn.
- There are currently no products on the market we have found that combine sensory tunnels and sensory boards.
